Boredom Benefits

We often identify boredom as a negative emotion, but boredom is an ally and catalyst for action.

Here are a few boredom benefits;

  • Improves mental health. Taking a break helps our overloaded brains relax and alleviate stress.

  • Increases creativity. When the mind is given a chance to wander and daydream, it enables creativity and problem-solving.

  • Motivates new goals. Boredom is a signal that we’re not doing what we want to be doing and encourages us to shift to more fulfilling goals and project.

  • Increases self control. When we practice sitting with boredom, our ability to focus and self-regulate increase.

Don’t just do something, sit there!

Question: What do you instinctively do to relieve yourself from boredom?

Action: Resist the urge to pull out your phone next time boredom presents itself.
